Practice Support
Overview
The Practice Support & Engagement Team is lead and coordinated by the Business Systems Coordinator.
The Team includes four Area Manager’s and Two Nurse Development Officers.
Objectives
The Practice Support and Engagement Team aims to provide services that enhance patient care, professional satisfaction and business success for all general practices within the Division.
Pivotal to this, is concise and timely communication around relevant issues allowing effective engagement with our members and key stakeholders.
Program Details
The Practice Support and Engagement Team have been operating under the “Area Manager” model since 2001. Your Practice has direct contact with the Division via your Area Manager.

The Division practice support team provides:
- Practice Visiting – two structured visits each year (May/June and October/November). Additional practice visits can be arranged with your Area Manager at the request of the practice in the areas of e.g. accreditation, quality improvement and systems change.
- Resource provision e.g. Practice Handbook for New General Practitioners, Consumer resources. You can view our comprehensive suite of resources on the resources link below
- Accreditation assistance – support / assistance for accreditation and can provide mock accreditation survey visits
- Practice Enhancement initiatives and tools e.g. Lifescripts, specific program initiatives
- Provision of assistance in any area related to general practice e.g. MBS items, Information Management, Clinical Data Extraction Tools
- Business Decision Support Tools e.g. Practice Health Atlas: A Decision Support and Practice Planning Tool.
Program Acheivements
Quality Improvement and Systems Change
The Division is dedicated to applying the Collaborative principles as a tool to improving practice and patient outcomes. Brisbane South Division is one of 43 Divisions across Australia who has participated in Phase 1 of the Australian Primary Care Collaboratives with 27 practices benefiting.
The proven success of the model has prompted us to lead and coordinate locally based collaboratives. This has been demonstrated by the adaptation of the methodology across an additional three topics – Aged Care, Immunisation and COPD.
Nurse Development Officers
The Nurse Development Officers have been providing support to Nurses across the Division since 2006 which has significantly improved networking and reduced the professional isolation of Practice Nurses. If your Practice is thinking about, or has recently employed a Practice Nurse, or you are an existing Nurse working at the Practice within the Division, our experienced Nurse Development Officers have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are available to mentor and support you.
