 Helping Children with Autism

On behalf of the Department of Health and Ageing, BSDGP wishes to inform all general practitioners about the new referral pathways for children with autism or any other pervasive development disorders (PDD), available from July 1 2008. General practitioners play a key role in the treatment of Autism and PDD as they are generally the first point of contact in the health care system. The new items enable consultant psychiatrists and pariatricians to diagnose and manage children with PDD’s. The items also allow allied health proffesionals to assist in referring consultant psysicians in the diagnoses and preparation of a PDD treatment and management plan.
