Triple P-Positive Parenting Program

“Small changes, big differences”, “Keep in touch with your child(ren)”

Raising healthy and well adjusted children who have the skills for adult life can be a stressful process for most parents and at times can push even the most confident of parents to the ‘brink’. Learning to handle day to day developmental, behavioural and emotional changes can be taxing, and as we well know children do not arrive at birth with a manual in toe!   It is known that parenting is one of the hardest jobs faced in life.  It takes time to develop the skills and knowledge to promote development in children.

So where do parents go to learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to raise their children?  What help is available for parents facing challenging behaviours, emotional ups and downs and developmental changes?

One avenue is the Triple P-Positive Parenting Program.  Triple P has been designed to prevent severe behavioural, emotional and developmental problems in children by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents.  The program was designed by Professor Matt Sanders and colleagues from the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland.  Triple P is a multi-level intervention program for parents of children from birth to age 12.  The program extends to address concerns of parents of young people aged 12-16.

The tiered multi-level strategy recognizes that parents have differing needs with regards to the type, intensity and mode of parenting assistance.  Triple P system is designed as such to maximize efficiency and ensure it reaches the community at large.

Triple P has been developed with over 20 years of research trials.  The program has been well tested internationally and found useful for many parents from various cultural backgrounds.

Thanks to the Connecting Communities program we are able to offer FREE training to GP’s, Nurses, Teachers, Community and Health Workers and Allied Health Professionals in the multi-levels of Triple P to increase the availability of Triple P for parents in the Brisbane South Region.
